USA Human Rights Delegation in Western Sahara

A delegation of Human Rights activists from United States of America (USA) led by Ms Kathryn Cameron Porter and Nancy Fluff are in Laayoun, Western Sahara to get first hand information on the issue of Human Rights.

The delegation has requested permission to visit the camps of Tindouf Argeria and will write a report on their findings and deliver it to the US Congress, the White House and the State Department as well the UN Security Council members.

UN Cultural Rights Expert to visit Morocco

United Nations Independent Cultural Rights Expert Farida Shaheed, will launch her first official mission to Morocco from September 5- 16, 2011 to assess efforts by the authorities to promote and protect cultural rights, and to identify best practices and obstacles to their realization.

UN expert to assess Algerian housing policies

The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Raquel Rolnik, will visit Algeria from July 9 - 19, 2011 to study the effect of the country’s housing policies and programmes on the human rights of its people.

The departure of Dominique Strauss-Kahn as International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director has presented prime opportunity for African countries to head the global financial institution.

African countries are urging their   developed counterparts to o deliver on their commitment to implement major reforms at the IMF, including those relating to governance, by appointing an African to replace the beleaguered Frenchman.
