PLURAL+ 2012 Youth Video Festival on Migration and Social Inclusion Calls for Youth Participation

PLURAL + 2012 deadline for video submission is 1 July, 2012.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations ( UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration ( IOM) again invite the world’s youth to submit original and creative videos focusing on PLURAL+ themes: migration, diversity and social inclusion.

In 1975, a student in Cairo University challenges former president Anwar Al-Sadat over the removal of an imam from a major mosque. He tells the president that he was surrounded by “hypocrites”. In days, no one dared to address the president with anything other than hypocritical words of praise. Such bravery costed him his residency at Al Kasr Alainy Hospital, which is a very high price to pay for a medical student.

US strengthen ties with North Africa

USA Under Secretary for Economic, Energy, and Agricultural Affairs Robert Hormats and Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs Jose W. Fernandez met September 26, 2011  with senior economic officials from Algeria, Tunisia, and representatives from the Moroccan and Mauritanian Embassies on  the margins of the World Bank-International Monetary Fund meeting, under the auspices of the U.S. – North Africa Partnership for Economic Opportunity.

Mohajjar narrative: being Lebanese, living French

Some Lebanese women having escaped the civil war, internal ethnic strife and gender inequalities back home, share personal experiences of cultural integration, racism, and professional opportunities in France.

Paris: Lebanon has been the theatre of violence and devastation for decades. The 1975 Lebanese Civil War stretched on for over 15 years. Those years were also marked by violent wars with Israel in addition to internal ethnic strife. In July 2006, there was the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon; and since then there have been several political upheavals as well.

Tunisia launches Safer Internet Use Campaign

Raising awareness about how to stay away from unlawful Internet content is the focus of the Internet Society Tunisian Chapter launched, on Saturday 2 July 2011, an awareness campaign on Safer Internet Use.

The Chapter Chairman Khaled Koubaa announced that the campaign, in which took part the Secretariat of State to Technology, National Information Technology Security Agency (ANSI) and Microsoft company, will be continuing for 7 months until 7 February 2012, the date of the celebration of the World Safer Internet Day.

UN Cultural Rights Expert to visit Morocco

United Nations Independent Cultural Rights Expert Farida Shaheed, will launch her first official mission to Morocco from September 5- 16, 2011 to assess efforts by the authorities to promote and protect cultural rights, and to identify best practices and obstacles to their realization.

We are pleased to announce the winners of 1001 Stories of Common Ground’s Positive Change in Action competition. Selected for their photos, videos and written pieces showing positive change in the Arab world in a constructive way, winning entries highlighted joint Christian-Muslim efforts to help refugees, women working together in Tahrir Square in Egypt, men and women in Morocco speaking out about women’s rights, and new initiatives to empower women in Lebanon.

 Parties to the Western Sahara dispute- Morocco and the Frente Polisario concluded another round of informal talks during which they continued to deepen their discussions on the issue of the electoral corps and mechanisms for self-determination.

UN appoints new head for Western Sahara Command

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Abdul Hafiz of Bangladesh as the Force Commander of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Maj.-Gen. Hafiz, currently commanding an infantry division of the Bangladeshi army, served two tours as a blue helmet with UN operations in Côte d’Ivoire, including one as a deputy force commander. He also served as a military liaison officer with the UN Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) and as the chief military liaison officer in Zagreb, Croatia.

لماذا لايتم استخدام بدائل للحد من العنف ضد المرأة .. كالتوعية وابراز دورها الفاعل في المجتمع وغيرها التي قد تساهم في وضع حد لهذة المشكلة بدلا من سن القوانين التى قد لا تجدي نفعاً في ضل غياب الوعي...

تمسكي برأيي ومحاولة اقناع الغير به وان كان خاطئ يدل على عدم قبولى بالاخر .. فقناعتي بامر ما يخصني انا ليس بالضرورة اقناع الناس به.

ليس من الضروري إقناع الشخص الأخر ،ولكن المهم هو التفهم لرأي الأخر وإيصال الفكرة التي أريد بكل إحترام وبطريقة حضارية بدون ممارسة ما يعرف بالإرهاب الفكري
